Booking Angel helps any service businesses receive reservations and appointments from the Internet. We started in the $187 billion restaurant industry where 79% of the 2 billion people per year looking for restaurants online want to book online and cant. We solve this problem with our patented interactive speech technology platform, that converts the reservation information to a phone call and allows the restaurant to respond to reservations using just their telephone.
The restaurant pays for each reservation they accept and Internet directory that generated the reservation receives a % of the reservation fee.
The leading restaurant directories in Australia already use us. since our launch in the US last year where we were voted one of the top 100 startups in Silicon Valley, we have gone live with restaurant directory Boorah (part of Intuit) where we have shown that we can generate on that site at least 4x more reservations than the current market leader Open Table . We have just signed a distibution deal with one of the largest restaurant directory in the US which we will announce publicly soon with a re-design / relaunch of the site.
Core Team Members
The founding team worked together at one of Australia’s largest web developers Hothouse. Dean McEvoynis the business and product side, Gerry Tan and Dave Watson are the technology. Dean McEvoy subsequently felt this problem with online reservations first hand when he purchased a restaurant and bar. They went live in 2005, worked part time on it until July 2007 and have finished product, patents granted, customers and some revenue. Booking Angel launched in the US in early 2008 and since then an excellent group of advisors has come on board people who have built and sold companies in the yellow pages / online directory space.
Booking Angel was voted one of the top ideas of the Yellow Pages Business Ideas Grants. We were voted in the top 100 in the Always On conference in Silicon Valley, Dean McEvoy was voted one of the top entrepreneurs under 30 by Smart Company in 2008, runner up in the KPMG digital media awards and the #7 in the top 100 web 2.0 apps by BRW.
