Brawsome is a game developer, focusing on exploring comedy in games, through characters, stories and gameplay.
With the release and 100% ownership of the adventure game Jolly Rover - http://www.brawsome.com.au/JollyRover. Brawsome is looking at improving on the comedic formula of their titles to provide an even richer experience through interactive story telling and the digital delivery of that experience.
Brawsome posesses the skills and network to develop and digitally distribute high quality small-medium sized games, as evidenced by the fantastic distribution and reviews of Jolly Rover - http://www.brawsome.com.au/JollyRover/index.php?page=press. What Brawsome currently lacks is the capital to improve the impact a game makes when it hits the market, which includes marketing, cross-platform development and localisation (translation). In addition, it lacks the capital to work on more than one game at a time, leading to slow growth of the companies portfolio of quality original titles.
Beginning with Jolly Rover, Brawsome plans to develop and retain ownership of a series of original transmedia franchises that build the value of the company and allow it to be stable and profitable in the turbulent world of game development, allowing to stand apart from fee-for-service game companies that rely on constant international investment involving development of overseas owned franchises.
Core Team Members
Brawsome is driven entirely by the passion of one person - Andrew Goulding. Making a living as a games programmer Andrew felt restricted by a job description and branched out to form independant game developer Brawsome. As Director of Brawsome Andrew is responsible for writing, designing, production, programming, voice casting and direction, marketing and business. Andrew sometimes feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
Company Vision & Future
Brawsome explores comedy in games, pushing the boundaries of interactive comedy. Under ideal circumstances, Brawsome is creative gaming force, producing strong new IP's every year and amassing a wealth of IP's to leverage to other mediums in order to fund development of innovative new IP's. Brawsome looks to companies such as Pixar for inspiration in being able to tell stories everyone can enjoy and having a wealth of IP's that can be leveraged in many ways.
Current Valuation
Brawsome is currently worth $500,000. Not that I would sell for that. Development of a new title on par with Jolly Rover will cost $300,000, as will a sequel to Jolly Rover. A smaller franchise could be developed for $150,000.
Exit Opportunity
The value of an IP is long term, however most games make the bulk of their money in the six months of release, with year to to recoup additional value through discounted sales. Additionally, established game IP's can be licensed to TV, Film and print as well as merchandise sporting the IP. IP's in the one franchise are also strengthened through release of sequels. A single franchise of games can run a course of 3 years. Investors could negotiate percent stake in the IP, with the ownership reverting to Brawsome once the investment has been paid back in addition to an agreed upon percentage.
Ideal Investor
The ideal investor would have links to a large, international retail game publisher or extensive contacts in game or print marketing, such as in newspapers, magazines or websites. An investor with a background in game or film publishing would be a plus. It is important that the investor be hands-off in the actual creative process and development, this is imporant to maintain the integrity of the IP, and maintain the Brawsome flavour.
