Research shows that cash money can be a significant source of virus transmission. A recent study by the American Society for Microbiology shows that for children, in one third of cases, the influenza virus survived for at least 48 hours. The report is available at http://aem.asm.org/cgi/content/full/74/10/3002.
Coins or notes placed in a child’s school canteen lunch order bag could carry germs, which then could in turn possibly be transmitted to food items placed in the same bag. This is perhaps one of many reasons why cashless canteen lunch ordering systems should be considered by schools.
mHITs (pronounced Em-HITS) operates an SMS based school canteen lunch order payment service. The service known as Easy Canteen, allows parents to pay for their child’s school canteen lunch order simply by sending an SMS text message.
For school canteen operators, Easy Canteen provides a simple, convenient, low cost, cashless payment option that can be added alongside most existing lunch ordering services. Easy Canteen can also be used for over-the-counter canteen purchases. For more information on how Easy Canteen works visit www.mhits.com.au/easy-canteen.htlm
Easy Canteen has been endorsed by the Federation of Parents & Citizens’ Associations of NSW and is the first of a number of new mHITs services, aimed at providing a solution for specific market applications including retail Point Of Sale, parking, and cashless vending.
