Pitchworthy Stories: GovHack, FireMint, Task.FM

picture-20•Rather than reinventing the wheel, VW has decided to team up with one of the top game apps in the iTunes store to create some mad advertising synergy. The car brand has paired with Australian gaming company FireMint to sponsor a Real Racing GTI game to promote the release of VW’s new 2010 GTI. This pared down version of the Real Racing game is free, but offers most of the same features such as the ability to broadcast your wins through social media.

• ACT-based Task.FM has been racking up press in blogs around the globe and was recently featured on the American program, The Today Show. The site, which offers easily programmable natural language reminders, was mentioned by Dannielle Kyrillos from DailyCandy.com accompanied by video screen shots.

• The recent GovHack event drew out heaps of hackers to dig through government data and find ways to create useful mashups. If you missed the official GovHack event in Canberra or the side event in Melbourne, you still have one more chance as Lonely Planet and GovHack team up for a dual day of hacking November 7 and 8.

• At last week’s Tech23 Event there was a bit more buzz about another new incubator project that is following a mixture of seed funding and Y Combinator models. Seed Accelerator, headed up by Patrick Driessen, plans to take a small handful of startups for a set period of time and help them grow. Although Seed Accelerator is accepting startups from around the world, they must relocate to Sydney for the duration of the program. Word is that the program could start as soon as late November. • Commercialisation Australia is seeking a new board member. Applications close this Wednesday, but the board is seeking a person who understands the process of bringing a ideas to market, and a technology advocate would be valuable. You can apply via the board website here.
