Pitchworthy Stories: Saasu, Shoes of Prey?, OzPDA and Bonush

By Rachel Youens on Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Melbourne-based real-time search engine startup Bonush has been faced with a denial of service attack which shut the site down over the weekend. In a press release, site owner Russel Harrower said he was unsure who or why someone was launching the attack but one blogger has made some speculations.

• Australian app developers Oz PDA, a division of the Sydney-based Ajnaware, have launched a new augmented reality app into the iTunes store. The Sun Seeker app finds the sun’s position during any point of the day or of the year. Oz PDA’s previous work has included the Oz Weather App.

• Sydney based SaaS accounting startup Saasu has launched a new addition to its product this week. The company, headed up by Mark Lehmann, is introducing a community aspect into the site similar to Google Docs templates called CrowdTheme. This addition will allow customers to add templates and themes to their invoices and statements.

• On the eve of their planned launched, Sydney-based online retail startup Shoes of Prey found out they would not be able to trademark their business name in Australia. However, the business owners have used the tough lesson to educate others on their blog and are encouraging readers to help them find their new name.

Jakob Lodwick, co-founder of high definition video hosting site Vimeo, is on a visit to Melbourne and has been documenting his trip on his blog and has made some time for visits with a few of the founders of popular Melbourne startups and and startup events… Can you guess who?
